I had another new pattern collection in mind before digressing to play with florals! I love New Zealand natives and wanted to create something with plenty of variety on a nice dark background.

Alpine Sunbath

This pattern was inspired by the gorgeous bright mountain daisies and alpine buttercups you can see on a summertime hike in the mountains. It also features the black mountain ringlet butterfly (Percnodaimon merula).

Alpine Wandering

Wandering rows of alpine gentians and forget-me-nots, with a special appearance from some alpine shield bugs.

Flowering Aotearoa

Hebe

Hebe outlines like lace against a dusky pink background. How cute are those baby onesies?

Fern Bugs

It’s not known what plants the alpine shield bug feeds on, so I popped in some alpine shield fern fronds, on a lovely ‘fern’ background colour. I also wanted to create something not so floral to go with the other patterns.

Seed Stripe

With this coordinate pattern I lined up a heap of flower seed shapes against a soft pink background. Stripe heaven!

This collection is available in my Spoonflower shop. Or, if you are a Kiwi after some awesome quality NZ printed fabric, please get in touch.

Evaluation

This collection has good variety in scale, colour and shape. My favourite patterns are ‘Alpine Wandering’ and ‘Fern Bugs’. I love both the alpine gentian and fern motifs. For a second pattern collection I think it shows great cohesion.
